2 pounds Swiss chard
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 thick slices bacon, chopped
2 tablespoons white wine (optional)
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Chop chard stems into 1-inch pieces. Tear leaves in half.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until fragrant. Stir in bacon; cook until browned and crisp, about 5 minutes.
